SYNOPSIS: Ann and Mike Kibalo married after dating for nine months. Only
one thing was missing to make their lives complete - a child. Two and a half
years after they were married, Ann gave birth to Samantha and the couple brought
her home to Suffern, New York. But their joy was short-lived. According to Mike,
Ann began behaving erratically almost immediately. She allegedly began yelling
at Mike saying that she didn't need him anymore. The following afternoon, Mike
returned home from work to find all the furniture missing. They baby's room was
also completely cleaned out. Mike called his mother-in-law. He claims Ann
answered the phone and told him the marriage was over and that he would never
see their daughter again. According to Mike, Ann told him that she had called
the police and reported that Mike beat her up and that he was also harming
Samantha. Police later determined that there was no evidence of abuse. Mike
Kibalo sued for divorce and sole custody of Samantha. As the divorce case weaved
through the legal system Ann was ordered by the court to share custody of
Samantha with Mike.
After a weeklong visit with Ann, Mike said Samantha was
returned to him with bruises on her face. Mike immediately took Samantha to the
family pediatrician. The doctor said that the bruise was three to five days old
- which means that it most likely occurred while Samantha was with her mother. A
court-appointed psychiatrist was assigned to evaluate Mike and Ann's fitness as
parents. While no determination was made as to how Samantha got the bruises, the
psychiatrist concluded that there was something odd in the way Ann was treating
her daughter. Over a span of 11 months Ann took Samantha to 7 doctors on 33
occasions. She also reportedly hired 23 lawyers and 11 psychiatrists - according
to some, a classic behavior of a person suffering from Munchausen's Syndrome by
Proxy. The final diagnosis was that Ann had a severe personality disorder with a
mixture of traits from several disorders. Soon Mike Kibalo was awarded full
custody of Samantha.
But the ordeal was far from over. Ann had appealed the
court ruling and she still had a right to see her child. The day before the
court made it's final decision on the appeal, Mike brought Samantha to the
police station for a scheduled overnight visit with Ann. Mike returned the
following day to pick up his daughter but Ann never showed up. All efforts to
find them have failed, leaving Mike Kibalo's life in ruins. Mike fears that his
daughter is in grave danger.
Two months later, police discovered Anne's SUV
abandoned in a Brooklyn parking garage. But a search of the vehicle provided no
clues as to Ann or Samantha's whereabouts. Both have been missing since February
of 2001. Samantha Kibalo would now be three years old. She has light brown hair
and brown eyes. Ann Kibalo is wanted for kidnapping and unlawful flight to avoid
prosecution. Authorities believe she may be traveling with her red Tibetan
terrier named Vodka. She may also be in contact with medical professionals.

Alicia Markovich now missing 19 years--Blairsville, Pennsylvania
Vital Statistics at Time of Disappearance
Missing Since: April 26, 1987
from Blairsville, Pennsylvania
Classification: Endangered Missing
Date
Of Birth: February 20, 1972
Age: 15 years old
Height and Weight: 5'2,
120 pounds
Distinguishing Characteristics: Brown hair, blue eyes.Markovich's ears are pierced.
Clothing Description: A white crop top with
red, yellow and blue stripes, jeans and white tennis shoes.
Details of
Disappearance
Markovich's mother had custody of her in 1987 and they resided
in Windber, Pennsylvania. Markovich was visiting her father at his home in
Blairsville, Pennsylvania on April 26, 1987. She and her father had an argument
regarding her mother's request for additional child support for Markovich at the
time. Her father told authorities that Markovich walked out of his residence
abruptly during the argument and never looked back towards the house. He called
after and told her to return home by 8:00 p.m. Markovich never arrived and has
not been heard from again. She was carrying a pair of purple sunglasses at the
time of her disappearance.
Markovich's case is classified with many law
enforcement agencies as that of an Endangered Runaway, but some investigators
believe she may have not intended to leave voluntarily for an extended period of
time and could have become a victim of foul play. There were no leads in her
disappearance until October 2000, over 13 years since Markovich was last seen.
Her father received an anonymous letter at his home which detailed his
daughter's possible murder and burial location in Pennsylvania. The letter was
postmarked from New Bedford, New Hampshire. Authorities traveled to New Bedford
and questioned the person whose name was written on the return address of the
envelope. The unidentified individual had no knowledge of Markovich's case, nor
was he or she familiar with the Blairsville, Pennsylvania area. The person is
not believed to have been the author of the letter.
Investigators searched
an area identified in the note as Markovich's burial location in late 2000.
Authorities will not specify where the search took place, but did state that the
region was along the Conemaugh River outside of Blairsville. No evidence was
discovered during the initial search, but another attempt may take place
sometime in the future. Investigators are uncertain if the letter was a hoax,
but are exploring all possibilities.
Markovich was a freshman at Windber
High School at the time of her disappearance, and was a member of the school's
track team. Her case remains unsolved.

Part of the reason that I chose to post Mary on here now is that today on MSNBC.com I found an article on family abductions. To read it, go to http://msnbc.msn.com/id/10038590. A small excerpt:
The trauma of family abduction is often compounded by lies, Hart-Haviv
said: “A child might be told the left-behind parent is dead, dangerous or
doesn’t love them anymore.”
And the deeper the deceit, the harder it can be
for a child to recover when found, she said.

This is known as Munchausen syndrome by proxy, meaning the mother uses the
child's fake illnesses to gain attention.
In 95% of cases the mother is the
one abusing the child this way; in other cases, the father, grandparent, or even
babysitter may be the abuser. Some mothers go beyond making up symptoms to
actually causing symptoms.
In time the child can come to believe that he or
she really is sick. Some abused children fear contradicting their mothers, or
feel that no one will believe the truth if they tell it.
Read the rest of the article at http://rarediseases.about.com/cs/munchausensynd/a/091402.htm?terms=%22munchausen+by+proxy%22. As you can see, Samantha is in serious danger if she is indeed a victim of Munchausen by Proxy, because it is simply a lesser-known form of child abuse. So please, if you know anything about the whereabouts of Ann and Samantha Kibalo, call the Rockland County Sheriff's Office at the number listed above.
