Denis DeRenzo now missing 2 years, Van Voorhis, Pennsylvania

The latest mention I can find of Denis DeRenzo is in a church bulletin from 2006. It mentioned that his family was sponsoring a mass to pray for his safe return. The mass was to be held on September 13 of that year. (You can see it for yourself at http://www.nativitysouthpark.org/Nativity_Parish/Bulletins/Bulletins/Year%202006/weekly60910.pdf.)

Here is a news article about Denis from a month after he disappeared. Article from http://www.yoursouthhills.com/southhillsrecord/article/curry-corner-employee-missing-sept-13:

Curry Corner employee missing since Sept. 13

Denis DeRenzo told his mother he'd see her at work in
the morning and she hasn't seen him since.
DeRenzo, 28, worked for his
mother at the Curry Corner Restaurant in Baldwin.
He's been living with her
on Brownsville Road and borrowed her truck, a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado, to ride
down to the restaurant where his car was in need of work on its brakes on Sept 13.
"Last thing he told me was 'see you tomorrow at seven,'" said his
mother, Nancy. "I haven't heard from him since."
His mother went on to say
her son didn't appear out of sorts he left her home. His car is still parked at
the restaurant.
DeRenzo described her son as being 6-foot-1, weighing about
200 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. He has a number of tattoos including
his wife's name "Yvonne" on his neck.
Anyone with information concerning
DeRenzo's disappearance should call Baldwin police at 412-881-8000.

An alternate contact is the Fallowfield Township Police Department at (724) 483-4545.

Denis has a profile on the North American Missing Persons Network, which was the source of the above photo. It could almost be printed and used as a poster, except the phone number would be on a second page. If you would like to print it anyway, visit http://www.nampn.org/cases/derenzo_denis.html.

Greenfield man charged in killing
By Michael Hasch
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Tuesday, September 18, 2007
The owner of a Homestead tanning salon was
arrested Monday on charges of killing a Jefferson Hills man whose body has not
been found.
Bryan Sedlak, 35, of Greenfield, was charged with criminal
homicide and abuse of a corpse in connection with the death of Patrick Kenney,
22, who was last seen by family members when he left to meet a friend on the
evening of Feb. 2, 2005.
Sedlak, described in court papers as a man who sold
drugs and had a significant drug habit, was arrested in the Allegheny County
Jail, where he was taken after his arrest on a bench warrant for failure to
appear on an unrelated simple assault charge. He was awaiting arraignment in
Night Court on the new charges.
Allegheny County police Lt. Christopher
Kearns acknowledged that Kenney's body has not been found.
Kenney's brother,
J.P. Kenney of Richland, said the family has been asked by investigators not to
discuss the case.
Patrick Kenney, a steamfitter known as "Pooch," was last
seen when he told his mother, Ellen, that he had some business to take care of
and expected to return home for dinner in about an hour.
Kenney's white 1999
Cadillac Escalade was recovered 13 days later on McCaslin Drive in Greenfield.
According to the criminal complaint, witnesses told an Allegheny County
Investigating Grand Jury:
Kenney, who had a history of drug addiction,
received a pension fund settlement of $6,800 on Feb. 1 and was seen with Sedlak
the day he disappeared.
Sedlak, an avid hunter, told several people that he
shot and killed "Pat" or "Patrick" inside his salon and needed help disposing of
the body. He said he shot "Patrick" several times, and at least one witness saw
the body rolled up in a carpet.
The suspect told at least one witness that
he intended to cut up Kenney's body and was in need of a generator. He later
told witnesses that he had destroyed the body and that a relative helped him
dispose of the remains.
No one else has been charged, but the investigation
is continuing.

If you have any additional information about what happened to Patrick, please call the Allegheny County police at (412) 473-3000.

Unfortunately, I cannot find a poster of Patrick.

Natalee Holloway: "Dr. Phil" granted access to some documents

This is the first actual news on Natalee for a couple months, and it also is slightly encouraging!
Transcript from http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,296798,00.html:

Holloway Case: New Kalpoe Documents
Friday, September 14, 2007
This is a rush transcript from "On the Record ," September 13, 2007. This copy may
not be in its final form and may be updated.
GRETA VAN SUSTEREN, FOX NEWS HOST: Tonight, a possible breakthrough in the Natalee Holloway case. A California judge has ordered the Kalpoe brothers to turn over documents and e-mails that the judge says are relevant to the most fundamental issues in this case.
John Q. Kelly is an attorney for Natalee Holloway's parents. He joins
us in New York.
John, you were part of this lawsuit originally, but your
client got bounced out of it. Btu tell me, what is the order that this judge has
issued and why is it significant?
JOHN Q. KELLY, ATTORNEY FOR HOLLOWAY FAMILY: Well, the key issue is whether the Kalpoe's have to turn over all the documents in their possession including all their e-mail correspondence between them and Joran Van der Sloot or any other third parties during the uncertain period of time after Natalee's disappearance. And we're hoping that it would shed some light on Natalee's disappearance and the Kalpoe's involvement with it and think of it (ph) if they're kind enough to turn it all over.
VAN SUSTEREN: You say shed some light. Is it fair to say this might be a bombshell in the case?
KELLY: Well, depending on what is in the records they have right
now. I know for a fact that the former prosecutor Karen Yanson (ph) had
diligently turned over all the prosecution filed up to a certain point to the
Kalpoes and Mr. Van der Sloot as the investigation was going on. And I think
having now seen the light of day and Dr. Phil's attorneys having these two
questioned, the Kalpoes, taking their deposition, it could be rather powerful,
to say the least.
VAN SUSTEREN: These e-mails and documents have never been
in the possession of you or your client Dave and Beth, is that right?
KELLY:
Some of them may have been, Greta. I have seen some of the prosecution filings,
I've seen a lot of the police reports and things, but obviously there's a lot
out there we have not seen yet and we would like to be privy to. And I would
certainly like to see Dr. Phil's attorneys be privy to them.
VAN SUSTEREN:
John, there is some question whether the documents will be produced. The Kalpoe
brothers will say, we don't have them, they are in the possession of the
prosecutor in Aruba. Is that true? Is that the way it's going to be fought at
this point?
KELLY: I believe David Koch (ph), one of the attorneys for the
Kalpoes actually signed a declaration at the court indicating that even if the
court ordered the documents be turned over, they were not going to turn them
over, which was sort of, for lack of a better word, arrogant on his part. The
court did not necessarily like that.
But I can't see them both using the
courts as a sword and then a shield. They can't bring this action, they can't
seek damages and not obey the quarters of the ort - the orders of the court and
expect their case to go forward.
VAN SUSTEREN: All right. So now back this up
a little bit. Explain what this lawsuit is about and how your client was once in
it and is now out of it?
KELLY: The Kalpoe brothers claim - Deepak claims
that when he was interviewed by Jamie Skeeters (ph), who subsequently passed
away, he said on the tape that he was not involved in Natalee's disappearance
and in no way did he engage in any sexual activity with her before
disappearance. Deepak claims subsequently either Dr. Phil's production company
or Jamie Skeeters altered the tape to reflect that Deepak had been involved in
Natalee's disappearance and engaged in sexual activity with her prior to her
disappearance. And therefore they have brought a lawsuit claiming libel,
defamation, invasion of privacy and a lot of other claims based on the alleged
alteration of the tape, a ledger alteration.
VAN SUSTEREN: All right. So that
was filed in the State of California by these Aruban residents - I don't know
what their status is in Aruba. They live there, I don't know what their legal
status is.
They filed in the State of California and then you and your
clients seized upon the moment to try to get into the litigation so you would
get them under oath. Is that right?
KELLY: We did. Our premise was that they
were claiming that the basis of their claim was that it was false, by saying
that they were involved in Natalee's disappearance. Our claim was the wrongful
death action, the assault and wrongful death action that we brought against
Deepak and Satish was based on the same set of salient operative fact, that
whether they were involved or not in Natalee's disappearance is something that
should be litigated by the courts out in California once they have submitted
themselves to the jurisdiction.
VAN SUSTEREN: And then of course the court
said that your client could not bring the action so you guys got bounced out in
June.
KELLY: We did. Unfortunately. We would have liked to stay in there, but
that was the ruling.
VAN SUSTEREN: But you'd like to stay in there but even
though you got bounced out, it is s till a huge victory for you because I
suspect, I don't know, that you are working with the lawyers of Dr. Phil's
because that would enable you to get more information about the investigation,
right? Or won't you answer?
KELLY: I'll answer, of course. I've had a number
of conversations with the attorneys of Dr. Phil and I like to keep them posted
and they like to keep me posted. And that's an open line there, for sure.
VAN SUSTEREN: So getting really bounced out was not really a loss at all and your
foot is still in the door, so to speak.
KELLY: It was a hail Mary and we also
would like to know we want the Kalpoe brothers to know we're watching their
every move and if there is ever even a crack in the door we're going to seize
the opportunity and go after them.

Billy Smolinski on Without a Trace and The Early Show

Missing: Billy Smolinski
Disappeared From Conn. Home Three Years Ago

William
Smolinski Jr. has been missing for over three years, in a cold case
disappearance that has baffled both investigators and his family. Bianca

BILLY SMOLINSKI
We first told you about Billy Smolinski a year ago. He disappeared from his
Waterbury, Conn. home in August, 2004 after breaking up with his girlfriend.
CBS News Correspondent Bianca Solorzano got an update from investigators,
and the missing man's family.
Smolinsksi was 31 when he vanished.
He had just returned from a trip to Florida with his girlfriend. The next
night, he told his sister that his girlfriend was having an affair with a local
politician. They argued and broke up.
Smolinski's sister, Paula Bell recalls that, "I said, 'Well, what are you
going to do" And he just said, 'What am I going to do?'"
Authorities say Smolinski was last seen at his home. His next-door neighbor
says he asked him to watch his dog for a few days, because he was headed north
to look at a car he wanted to buy. His truck was found in his driveway, his keys
and wallet were under his front seat.
That, says Solorzano, is where Smolinski's trail ends.
The FBI calls it a difficult case.
"Essentially," says Special Agent Bill Aldenberg, "the man just disappeared
off the face of the Earth."
He says there's been no sign of Smolinski but, "There are suspects, based
on tips and based on interviews and based on investigations that we've
conducted."
The bureau was tipped off and, in the spring, searched in Shelton, about 20
miles from Waterbury. Agensts looked for evidence near several homes, dug up a
driveway, and also searched near a river, but found nothing.
The Smolinskis, Solorzano points out, have never stopped searching.
They posted thousands of missing person flyers but, in a strange twist,
found Smolinski's ex-girlfriend tearing them down.
At the time, local police say, she was not a suspect.

Richard Haynes Jr. now missing 3 years, Kittitas, Washington

(He is listed in various places as "Richard Haynes Jr.", "Richard Lee Haynes Jr.", or by his nickname, "Cody Haynes".)
What happened to Cody?

The facts (from www.charleyproject.org/cases/h/haynes_richard.html):

Vital Statistics at Time of Disappearance
Missing Since: September 12, 2004 from Kittitas, Washington
Classification: Endangered Missing
Date Of Birth: April 16, 1993
Age: 11 years old
Height and Weight: 5'0 - 5'1, 90 pounds
Distinguishing Characteristics: Caucasian male. Brown hair, blue eyes. Haynes is addressed by his nickname, Cody. He has a round birthmark on his inner right thigh.
Clothing/Jewelry Description: A red hat and a red or gray coat.

Details of Disappearance
Cody resided with his father, Richard Lee Haynes Sr., his four sisters, and Richard's girlfriend, Marla Jaye Harding(sometimes referred to as "Maria Jane Hardin" or "Marla Harding-Haynes"), in a second-floor apartment in the 100 block of north Main Street in downtown Kittitas, Washington in 2004.
Cody disappeared from his family's home between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. on September 12, 2004. He had refused to wash the dishes and Harding punished him by making him sit at the kitchen table for four hours before sending him to his bedroom at about midnight the previous day. Harding told Cody's sisters not to go near his room and told Cody not to leave the room for any reason. Evidently, no one checked on him for close to eighteen hours afterwards. Richard was at work when Cody was sent to his room, but came home later and then left the house in the early morning hours to look for car parts. He did not return until 4:00 p.m.
Cody apparently slipped out unnoticed during this time and arranged his stuffed animals on the bed to make it look like he was asleep. He took a black and green camouflage-patterned bag of clothing with him, but it was later found in a shed near his house. Investigators believe Cody may have hidden the bag there and planned to return for it later. His bicycle was also found in the shed.
There were a few possible sightings of Cody in the local area shortly after his disappearance. A neighbor may have seen him the morning he disappeared, and someone believes they saw him eating potato chips at Johnny's Serv-U later that day. Neither sighting has been confirmed.
Richard notified the police that Cody was gone after he arrived home again that afternoon. Authorities believed at first that the boy had run away from home because he was unhappy at the way he was disciplined, and that he might try to travel to his mother, who lives in Florida. She has served time in prison for child abuse and is not legally allowed to have contact with her son. Cody did not arrive in Florida and his mother has been eliminated as a suspect in his disappearance.
A week after Cody vanished, his sisters were removed from their father's home and placed into foster care. The removal order alleged abuse, neglect and lack of supervision in the Haynes household and was based mainly on the fact that the girls' brother, Cody, had been made to stay in his room for eighteen hours without being allowed to eat, drink, or use the toilet and without being checked on by an adult. Harding stated that he was a rebellious and deceitful child and needed discipline. Cody's sisters have since between declared dependent by the state and are doing well in foster homes.
Richard and Harding, who married sometime after September 2004, have hired lawyers and will not cooperate with investigators about Cody's disappearance. The rest of his family has cooperated fully with police. Before the Haynes children were taken from their home, Richard refused to allow police to question them. The Haynes daughters were remanded to foster care for six months, after which time the issue of their placement will be revisited. The family has a history with Washington Child Protection Services (CPS); late in 2001 and again in 2002, Richard was reported to CPS for possibly physically and emotionally abusing and neglecting his children. Witnesses stated that the Haynes children were made to stand outside for long periods in the wintertime without coats or shoes. Both times the allegations were found to be without merit. Cody was in the sixth grade in 2004; he and his sisters were originally public school students but became home-schoolers after the CPS complaints were made.
In February 2005, police obtained a warrant searched the Haynes residence. They had
interviewed Cody's sisters several times since their placement in foster care.
Initially the girls said nothing had happened to their brother, but later Cody's
oldest sister told investigators that he had been beaten severely inside his home the day he vanished. Police searched for traces of blood in the apartment's kitchen to back up the sister's story, but the flooring there had been replaced after Cody's disappearance and without the landlord's knowledge or consent. A second search was made and police seized a computer and Richard's Chevrolet Suburban. They also searched Harding's car. Authorities made what they termed a "significant discovery" during one of these searches, but have not elaborated on what exactly it was they found.
Cody may have left of his own accord, but after receiving the information from his sister investigators announced that he could be the victim of a homicide. They have no evidence that he was killed inside his home, but the fact that he has not been heard from in so long is indicative that he met with foul play. Due to his age and family background, Cody is considered to be in danger. His case was turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in October 2005; it remains unsolved.

The possibilities:
- Cody was angry about being punished and ran away from home. (This was the initial police theory. However, it seems less likely that he would be missing of his own accord for this long, especially since he was only 11 when he disappeared.)
- Cody was angry and ran away, then later met up with someone who harmed him. (Maybe not the most likely scenario, but always possible.)
- Cody was killed by his father and/or stepmom. Perhaps he was caught sneaking out and was physically abused, which led to his death. (Normally we do not like to blame the families of the missing. However, this unfortunately seems very possible, especially once you read about his father's little trip that night.)
- Some have suggested a connection to that infamous pedophile/murderer, Joseph Edward Duncan III (most famous for the brutal killings of four members of Groene/McKenzie family). However, a poster on Websleuths reported hearing that this had been ruled out.
- Cody was abducted from his bedroom in the middle of the night. (Unlikely, but possible. There is no evidence of an abduction.)

A child's skull was found in a field in Ritzville, Washington, in the summer of 2005. Could it be Cody's? Local media has suggested both him and Sofia Juarez, missing from Kennewick, as possible matches, although DNA has yet to be successfully obtained from the skull. Until and unless it is identified as Cody's, I will continue to treat his case as a missing child.

Azita Nikooei now missing 3 years, Bakersfield, California

I am very glad that Azita was not completely forgotten by the media this year. The only thing that could have made this article better would be if it had included a picture. (Or, of course, if it was reporting that Azita had been found! Hopefully that will come soon.)
Article from http://www.kget.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=8a983816-ae5c-43d6-b234-4dbe178b301e&rss=91:

Azita Nikooei's family puts up reward
Last Update: 9/04 1:41 pm
It’s been three years since the disappearance of Azita Nikooei, the young mother and
exotic dancer who went missing over the 2004 Labor Day weekend.
Bakersfield police investigators said this is not a cold case, though, and they are making progress. Now, the Nikooei family is also taking action.
The 29-year-old mother disappeared Sept. 6, 2004.
The last time she was seen was at the Marketplace in southwest Bakersfield the afternoon she disappeared. Her car was discovered in the Marketplace parking lot four days later. Her body was never discovered and police believe her case to be homicide.
“We do have people of interest. We do have a suspect, who is that Nathan Mowers,” said Bakersfield Police Sgt. Greg Terry.
This is the first time Bakersfield Police have named Nikooei’s boyfriend, Nathan Mowers, as a suspect. For the past three years he has been called a person of interest.
Mowers disappeared two weeks after Nikooei vanished. He was arrested in Wisconsin for a weapons violation, and the couple’s home in Bakersfield was searched for clues.
“There is foul play with her ex-boyfriend,” said Azita’s friend, Sherry Johnson.
Iran-native Nikooei came to the U.S. in 1994 and began working as an exotic dancer at Déjà Vu, of which friends said her boyfriend disapproved.
“She was a firecracker, spunky, outspoken, funny girl. The funniest I ever met in my whole life,” Johnson said.
The Nikooei family released this statement Monday: In our minds, this case will never be over until the person responsible for this crime is behind bars. The family of Azita Nikooei is posting a $10,000 reward for anyone who has information leading to the discovery of Azita Nikooei and the arrest of the person that is responsible. If you have any information, please contact Detective Caldas at (661) 326-3556.
“This is in an ongoing active investigation,” said Terry. “There are certain details I can not comment on. It would be inappropriate at this point.”
The case previously went to the District Attorney’s Office, but no charges were filed due to insufficient evidence.
There is still hope that one day the case will come to a close and there will be a resting place for Nikooei’s family and friends to remember her.
17 News was unable to reach Mowers for an interview.
Anyone with information on this case is urged to call Bakersfield Police Detective Caldas at 326-3556.

Audrey Herron now missing 5 years, Catskill, New York

The local media was very good about providing news coverage about Audrey. This particular article and photo of Audrey come from http://www.capitalnews9.com/content/story_links/?SecID=34&ArID=219577:
Missing woman's father speaks out on anniversary of
disappearance

CATSKILL, N.Y. -- Audrey May Herron's father Ray Turk, Sr. said, "It hasn't been easy. What can I say? You just miss her everyday. Everybody says it gets easier, but it doesn't. It gets worse I think."
On the
five-year anniversary of his daughter's disappearance, Turk waxes his wife's car. He says he just tries to keep himself busy -- anything to take his mind off that August night in 2002.
Turk said, "I didn't find out that night or I would have been out looking for her. I didn't get a call until the next morning. I called state police to have them get out there and start looking because they weren't even notified."
Audrey May Herron was a nurse who had left work and was heading home to her husband and children. She never made it. Turk said even though authorities have followed a number of leads over the years, her whereabouts remain a mystery.
Turk said, "I know they are still investigating. They are doing everything they can. Nobody has an answer. Somebody out there knows something and they just aren't saying or they don't want to get involved."
Turk tells us he keeps in contact with Doug and Mary Lyall whose daughter Suzanne went missing several years ago. He said they have been a constant source of support while he has been going through this tough time.
"They have been out there fighting for the rest of us," Turk said. "They keep it going."
For now, Turk says he just takes it one day at a time, finding things to keep him busy and his mind from dwelling on the harsh reality that his daughter may never be found.
Turk said, "Whatever I find out, I know it isn't going to be good. I would like to know what happened to her and the reason why it happened."

NAUGATUCK, Conn. -- The Naugatuck community filled the town green on Sunday for a vigil for Billy Smolinski.
Smolinski disappeared on Aug. 24, 2004. Three years later, many questions remain unanswered as to about what happened to the 31-year- old Waterbury man.
"With family and friends gathered together, it gives us the strength to continue on. There is someone out there that knows what happened to Billy and we need them to come forward," Smolinski's mother, Janice, said.
Janice Smolinski has been working to convince lawmakers to pass legislation that would improve investigating standards in cases like her son's.
